When an 8-month-old baby is diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, it can be a very frightening time for parents. Many might just go along with doctors’ orders and agree to treat their child with whatever means their physicians deem necessary. But one such baby’s father refused to go along with the standard chemo and radiation treatments, and insisted on treating his child with cannabis oil.
The baby’s physician, Dr. William Courtney, was understandably skeptical at first; it was an alternative treatment, and mainstream medicine tends to be rather hesitant. However, despite his hesitation about marijuana’s medicinal value early on, Dr. Courtney has witnessed its power to heal first hand on many occasions. Over the years, he’s grown into a staunch advocate for cannabis as a medical treatment.
In an interview with The Huffington Post, Dr. Courtney spoke about the 8-month-old whose inoperable cancer was cured by cannabis oil. He said, “They were putting cannabinoid oil on the baby’s pacifier twice a day, increasing the dose … And within two months there was a dramatic reduction, enough that the pediatric oncologist allowed them to go ahead with not pursuing traditional therapy.”
After four months, the baby’s tumor was completely gone. And by the end of the eighth month of treatment the brain tissue appeared completely normal. According to Dr. Courtney, the success of the cannabis oil treatment did not just save the baby from cancer, but also the potentially long-reaching effects of standard cancer treatment. He said that because the cannabis treatment worked, the baby also would not have to suffer with the long-term effects of high-dose chemotherapy and radiation treatments – which can come with grueling side effects. Dr. Courtney said, “[C]urrently the child’s being called a miracle baby, and I would have to agree that this is the perfect response that we should be insisting is frontline therapy for all children before they launch off on all medications that have horrific long term side effects.”
The increasing recognition of marijuana’s healing properties is a huge step forward, at least as far as advocates for medical cannabis are concerned. This simple plant has been revered for its amazing health benefits for quite some time, as has the hemp plant. Hemp can also help support good health in a number of ways. For example, it can help to relieve discomfort naturally, and may also reduce stress without psychoactive effects. CBD oil derived from hemp is growing in popularity, but not all products are created equally. That is why Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, and his very own CWC Labs have developed testing for the CBD content of these products, so you can be sure that they are 100 percent authentic.
While many states have begun to acknowledge that cannabis is indeed a medicinal plant, the federal government is lagging behind. In spite of this, research continues to show that there are many health benefits from cannabis. Even the National Cancer Institute has documented dozens of studies that showcase the plant’s ability to actually halt the progression of cancer. Studies have shown that two different types of liver cancer can be inhibited by cannabis. Research has also shown that cancerous tumors in many other organs, such as the pancreas, testes, mammary glands and the pituitary gland decreased in size when cannabis was administered.
Scientists have also found that the cannabinoids in cannabis can induce cell death, known as apoptosis, in certain types of cancers – such as some forms of breast cancer. Studies have shown that cannabinoids can bind to certain cancer cells, which may be one way that they exact their anti-cancer effects and cause cell death without harming healthy cells.
Of course, the medicinal uses of cannabis don’t end with cancer – many other conditions can be helped by the plant’s myriad health benefits.
